The Kota Hand Course, held on July 28th, 2024, provided a dynamic platform for orthopaedic surgeons to delve into the intricacies of hand and wrist injuries and the cutting-edge techniques used to address them. Over the course of the day, I had the privilege of presenting on three diverse yet equally crucial topics: finger injuries in athletes, acute scaphoid fractures, and wrist arthroscopy with a focus on arthroscopic triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) repair.

Keeping Athletes’ Fingers in the Game
Finger injuries are a common challenge faced by athletes of all levels, and it is crucial for orthopaedic specialists to have a deep understanding of the unique demands and stresses placed on these delicate structures during various sports. During my talk, we explored the most prevalent finger injuries, such as jammed fingers, mallet finger, fractures, and dislocations. Prompt and appropriate management, including timely diagnosis, immobilization, and tailored rehabilitation protocols, is essential for the athlete’s safe and speedy return to their sport.

Securing the Scaphoid: Navigating Acute Fractures
The scaphoid bone, a small yet vital structure in the wrist, plays a crucial role in maintaining overall hand stability and functionality. Acute scaphoid fractures can significantly impair an individual’s ability to perform even the most basic daily tasks, let alone engage in athletic or recreational activities. Our discussion at the Kota Hand Course delved into the nuances of this challenging injury, exploring the latest advancements in diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
